Waldo Morell #2543, retired Seattle police patrol officer, passed away on Wednesday, December 9th at age 84.  Wally was hired on January 31, 1966 and retired after 24 years of service on February 21, 1990. Wally's daughter Marie informed the pension office there will be no services.

Donald O. Hartwig #2176, Retired Seattle Police Patrol Officer, passed away on Saturday, December 5, 2020 at his home in Nampa, Idaho. Don was 86 years of age.  Don was hired on October 2, 1961 and retired on December 12, 1984 after 23 years of service.  Phyllis, Don’s wife of 57 years plans to have a Memorial service in the distant future.

Roy Wedlund #2154, retired Seattle Police Lieutenant passed away on November 29, 2020 at the age of 85. Roy was hired on October 2, 1961 and retired after 44 years of service on April 1, 2006. Roy’s wife of 30 years, Caroll advises there will be a memorial in the distant future and the Pension office will be sure to make that information available.

P. Craig Vandeputte #2246, Retired Seattle Police Lieutenant, passed away this morning, October 13, 2020 at 82 years of age. Craig joined the Department on March 21, 1962, rose up through the ranks and spent time in many units, including Homicide. He retired on January 8, 1986.  Craig’s wife of 53 years, Betty, advises there will not be a service at this time.

Richard L. Hutchison #2074, Retired Seattle Police Officer passed away on October 5, 2020 at the age of 90 years old. Richard was hired on July 25, 1960 and retired on July 28, 1984 after almost 25 years of service. Richard is survived by his wife of 68 years, Georgia. There will be no services at this time.

Richard "Dick" Adams #1930, Retired Seattle Police Patrolman passed away on Friday, September 11th at 85 years of age. 

Dick hired onto the department on March 27, 1959 and retired on disability on March 20, 1979.  Dick worked Patrol his entire career but during the last few years he was a proud member of the "Pike Peacekeepers" a program that had foot beat officers working in the Pike Place Market and Pioneer Square business area while wearing the 1910 Seattle police uniform. 

Donald “Don” Marquart #2442, Retired Seattle Police Major, passed away on August 25, 2020 at 79 years of age.  Don was hired on October 28, 1964 and retired for service on December 2, 1992 after 28 years of service. There will be no public service. In lieu of flowers, please send any donations to the Seattle Police Foundation PO BOX 456, Seattle, WA 98111.

Vernon “Don” Adams #2153, retired Seattle Police Sergeant, passed away on June 21, 2020 at 84 years of age.  Don was hired on October 2, 1961 and retired for service on March 27, 1975 after 13 years.  Don then went into real estate and eventually left the Seattle area, moving to Arizona to enjoy his full retirement with his wife of 64 years, Pat.  In following with Don’s request, there will be no services.

Barbara Grout #2290, Retired Seattle Police Sergeant, passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2020 at  88 years of age. Prior to coming to work as a Policewoman on July 23, 1962 Barbara held a position with the City Health Department. On January 1, 1970, Barbara was promoted to a Detective  position which she held until she was promoted to the rank of Sergeant on October 18, 1979. Barbara was highly regarded by many on the Department as a “go to Sergeant”.  Barbara was  married to Seattle Police Sergeant Larry Grout #2167, who passed away in October 20, 2006. There will be no services during this time.

William “Bill” H. Bishop #1390, Retired Seattle Police Detective passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2020 at 94 years old.  Prior to being hired by the Seattle Police Department, William was a Seattle Firefighter for five years, he then was hired on October 22, 1952 as a Seattle Police Patrolman.  Bill worked as a Detective in the Missing Person’s Detail, which at the time also handled mental health calls. Bill was a very compassionate and caring man who served his community for 27 ½ years, retiring on June 1, 1974. Bill was predeceased by his wife of 64 years Dorothy and his daughter Bonnie. Bill is survived by his two daughters, Kathy and Susan.  No services will be held per Bill’s wishes.

Allan Heinzlmeir #1367, Retired Seattle Police Sergeant Detective passed away on Monday, May 11, 2020 at the age of 91 at his home in California.  Allan was hired at Seattle PD on April 8, 1952 and retired after 27 years of service on April 9, 1979. Allan and his spouse, Marlene were married just four days shy of 61 years and sadly, Allan is predeceased by his daughter Allison in 2018.  There will be no public services.

William “Bill” Rauschmier #1461, Retired Seattle Police Detective, passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2020, just five weeks shy of his 90th birthday. Bill was hired on July 6, 1953 and retired on October 15, 1980 after 27 years of service. Bill was married to his wife June for 51 years. Per Bill’s wishes, there will be no services.

Ivan Feilberg #1485, Retired Detective Sergeant passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2020 at 92 years of age.  Ivan was hired on January 2, 1954 and retired on December 31, 1982 after 28 years of service, he went on to work at the US Marshall’s Office at the Federal Court house serving them for three years, eventually transitioning into full retirement. Prior to starting at Seattle PD, Ivan served in the US Army as a Military Police Officer. He genuinely loved being a Police Officer. Ivan was the longest living member of the SPD Motorcycle Drill Team, a distinction he was very proud of!   Ivan and wife, Barbara, celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in March.

H. Mike Slessman #1672, Retired Seattle Police Captain, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2020 at 87 years of age. Mike was hired on October 31, 1955 and retired after 28 years of service on January 31, 1984. Mike’s father, Howard Slessman #311, was a Sergeant for the Seattle Police Department who retired in 1967 and passed  away in 1981. Mike was married to Carole Slessman for 64 years upon his passing. Due to the pandemic, no services will be scheduled at this time.

James E. Armstrong Jr. #2468, retired Seattle Police Detective passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2020, he was 85 years old. James retired on March 3, 1980 with a Line of Duty Disability after 15 years of service. He will be buried in the Military Cemetery in Boise Idaho. There are no services planned at this time.

Ronald McAffee #3366. Retired Seattle Police Patrol Officer passed away Friday, April 10, 2020, he was 76 years old. Ron retired with a line of duty disability on 12/19/1979, after 9 years of service.

David Jessup #1086, Retired Seattle Police Major passed away on April 10, 2020 at 96 years of age.  Prior to joining the Seattle Police Department, David fought in the US Navy from 1943 to 1949. He returned home and was subsequently hired on the Department on December 20, 1949 and rose through the ranks prior to his retirement on August 28, 1970. At the time of David’s passing, he had just completed 49 ½ years of retirement.

Gregory Phillips #3541, retired Seattle Police Patrol Sargent passed away with his wife Karen by his side on Saturday, April 4, 2020, he was 72 years old. Greg retired with a line of duty disability on 1/25/1995, after 24 years of service.

Hubert “Bud” VandenWyer #1092, Retired Seattle Police Chief, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 1, 2020. Bud was 94 years old.  Bud was hired on December 20, 1949 and retired for Service on February 6, 1979 after 30 years of service.

Dennis Sumida #4935, Retired Seattle Police Traffic Officer passed away on April 1, 2020 on his 61st birthday.  Dennis came to Seattle PD from Sparks, Nevada Police Department on October 1, 1985, he retired on October 1, 2015 with 30 years of service. Dennis served his country in both the US Army and the US Air Force, eventually retiring from the Air Force Reserves after 30 years. Dennis was a Sgt E6, Security Forces Craftsman, who served in the Gulf War and earned multiple medals with devices attached throughout his career. Dennis, otherwise known as T65 or “Tip Toe” was married in 1985 to his wife Nancy.

John Dinse, #1520, Retired Seattle Police Bomb Squad Detective, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2020, he celebrated his 93rd birthday just weeks prior.  John was hired on January 4, 1954 and retired for Service on March 31, 1981, after 27 years of service.

Ernest “Ernie” L. Bisset #1286,  Retired Seattle Police Lieutenant, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2020 at 89 years old.  Ernie was hired on October 11, 1951 and retired for service on July 13, 1981, after almost 30 years of service. Ernie was honored at the 2019 Retired Officers Banquet as being the person in attendance with the lowest serial number. He spoke highly of this honor and was very thankful that he was able to share that evening with his Daughter Kim and Son Joel.

Allan “Al”  Lima #2898, Retired Seattle Police Detective passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2020 at 80 years old.  Al was hired on April 30, 1968 and retired on a line of duty disability on May 21, 1997 after 29 years of service. Currently there are no services allowed to take place in our state, so any service date will be published in the future.  Al is survived by his wife of 58 years, Donna and their son David and daughter Deanna.

Allan R. Gustin #3055, Retired Seattle Police Patrolman, passed away early this morning, February 24, 2020  at 83 years of age.>/p>

Jim Street #2353, retired Seattle Police Patrolman and Motorcycle Officer passed away Wednesday , February 12, 2020 at the age of 82. There will be no memorial service per his request.  He was hired on 7/27/1963. He retired on 1/17/1995.

Craig Vold #3294, Retired Seattle Police Detective, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2020 at 75 years of age.  Craig was hired on January 2, 1970 and retired for service on March 26, 2007. A service will be held on January 17, 2020 at 3:00PM, at the Bothell First Lutheran Church,  10207 NE 183rd St, Bothell, WA 98011.
